Choosing Weighted Blankets and Weighted Sensory Toys
Weighted comfort comes in several forms. A blanket or throw spreads weight over a larger area, while a lap pad offers a compact option for seated activities. Weighted sensory toys, including the bunny and knot ball, combine soft textures with noticeable heft for holding or lap time.
Compare Textures, Sizes and Weighted Options
Explore pocketed weighted blankets with removable Minky covers, an open-knit weighted blanket, a Minky throw and cotton, Sherpa or textured lap pads. Check each product page for current weights, dimensions and care instructions. A smaller item is not necessarily lighter: the weighted throw weighs 7kg.
The Penguin Cuddle Cushion and Cool Touch Plush Teddies offer optional weighted comfort bags. Their Cushion Only and Teddy Only versions do not include those inserts. The Sensory Knot Ball includes a removable 2kg Comfort Insert, and the Weighted Bunny contains approximately 1.8kg of weight.
Comfort That Fits Your Preferences
Some people enjoy steady weight during reading, seated activities or quiet rest. Preferences vary, and weighted products do not suit everyone. They should not be presented as a guaranteed way to improve sleep, treat anxiety or develop sensory skills.
Use and Care
Follow each product's instructions and choose an item the user can comfortably manage and remove independently. Keep breathing and movement unrestricted, keep blankets clear of the face and neck, and never use weight as a restraint. For children or anyone with health or mobility concerns, seek individual professional advice. Remove weighted blankets once the person is asleep, as recommended by RCOT.
Care differs by product and component. Check the instructions before washing covers, weighted inners, plush bodies or removable comfort bags.
