An overbed table brings a surface over the bed for meals, reading or a laptop. Before choosing one, check how it attaches, where the tray can move and whether the instructions suit the bed and intended user.
This guide compares the Stander EZ Swivel Overbed Table and Stander Freedom Overbed Table in our Bedroom and Home Supports range.
Ordering note: both current listings are marked for pre-order. Check the product page and confirm the expected dispatch timing with us before relying on a delivery date.
Start with the bed attachment
The two Stander models discussed here attach to the bed. They are different from a freestanding table that rolls into position on wheels. Choose the mounting format deliberately rather than assuming all overbed tables work the same way.
Stander describes different installation arrangements for traditional and adjustable beds. Check the exact frame, mattress and installation instructions before ordering. A description such as “adjustable” does not mean the table fits every bed.
Compare the EZ Swivel and Freedom models

Both models have height adjustment and a stated maximum tray load of 20 lb, approximately 9 kg. This is a load limit for objects on the tray, not a user-weight rating. Neither table is a standing or sitting assistance device.
Measure the activity space
Think about what needs to fit on the surface: a book, meal tray or laptop, for example. Note the dimensions of those items and allow for how you prefer to arrange them. Then ask us to confirm the usable tray measurements for the version being supplied.
Also consider the route beside the bed and where the tray will sit when moved aside. Check access to bedside drawers, bedding and other furniture. Swivelling movement needs its own space; a tray that fits over the bed may still be awkward in a narrow room.
Read the suitability restrictions before purchase
Read Stander’s full overbed table warnings and assembly instructions before ordering. These are adult-use products. The instructions exclude use with children and list restrictions involving mattress toppers, soft compressible pads, particular bed types and user circumstances.
The manual also explains entrapment and fall risks, installation positioning and the need for secure attachment without gaps. This buying guide does not replace those instructions. If suitability is uncertain, resolve it with the manufacturer and an appropriate healthcare professional before purchase.
Check inclusions before adding accessories
Compare the storage accessories already included with each model before purchasing extras. Do not assume another tray’s cup holder, pouch or attachment is compatible. Confirm any separately listed accessory against the exact model and the manufacturer’s instructions.
