Hearing protection covers more than just loud concerts. Australian families reach for ear muffs and ear plugs for fireworks, sporting events, classroom focus, sleep, work environments, and the everyday moments where the world simply gets too loud. Our Hearing Protection range covers every age — from newborns through to adults — and every situation.
Three things matter when shopping for kids' noise-reducing headphones (or ear muffs, depending on what you call them):
"Noise cancelling earmuffs" is often used to mean passive noise-reducing ear muffs (which our range is) — they physically block sound waves with foam, padding, and a sealed cup. True electronic noise-cancellation (active) is rare in kids' ear muffs and not necessary for most situations. Our passive ear muffs handle fireworks, concerts, and sensory-overload moments effectively.
From birth, with the right product. Our newborn-safe options are designed for ages 0+ — see our newborn ear protection guide for fitting tips and when to use them.
Many of our customers buy them for exactly this reason. Children who experience sensory overload often settle quickly once the muffs are on — the muffled environment helps them stay present in busy spaces without becoming overwhelmed. We don't make clinical claims, but families tell us this is one of the most-used items in their sensory toolkit.
The general guideline most parents work with: anything above 80 dB sustained, or sudden noises above 100 dB, is worth protecting against. For reference, a vacuum cleaner is around 75 dB, fireworks displays are 110-150 dB, and a rock concert is 110-130 dB.
Many NDIS plan managers will fund hearing protection as low-cost assistive technology. We're no longer NDIS registered, but you can purchase from us and claim through your plan manager.
For supervised naps in a carrier, pram, or car seat, yes. We don't recommend leaving them on a sleeping child unsupervised. For sleep specifically, soft ear plugs or a weighted eye mask are often a better choice.
All hearing protection ships from our warehouse in Taren Point, Sutherland Shire, Sydney. Standard shipping is 2-5 business days Australia-wide. Orders placed before 12pm Mon-Fri usually go out same day. Sutherland Shire locals can arrange warehouse pickup.
